“Shoes Loves The Ladies”

Last week at 5E Gallery the “Shoes Loves the Ladies” event was definitely a success.  I had a lot of fun and I actually ended up being the last one on the dance floor. I posted about it last week along with a link to an interview that I did with DJ House Shoes. I ended up interviewing him again at the event but, on video. The video isn’t ready yet but, here are some pictures from it.

The Floacist @ Club 9

Last Friday I went out to see “The Floacist” from Floetry at Club 9. I was definitely impressed by her solo efforts and what she performed. I honestly did not know that she could sing. I always thought that Marsha was the only one singing in Floetry but, Natalie can sing as well. So that was a surprise to me and again I like what I heard. I will definitely be buying her album when it drops. I’m still rooting for her and Marsha to work out whatever and bring Floetry back though. I miss those two as a group dearly… Besides the great performance I would have to say that Natalie is extremely beautiful.

Another thing that I have to mention is prior to this event I had only been to Club 9 twice. I went for the L Word 6 Season premiere and I also went to an “Arabian Nights” party there. Both of those events were nice.  A friend of mine who I grew up with actually threw this party w/ Natalie. I remember her telling me that she throws these parties via SixxEvents.com but, I never got a chance to come check one of them out until Friday. I must say that I was impressed.

Initially I thought the atmosphere was a little saditty but, that opinion changed by the end of the night. This party was one of the most upscale Lesbian parties that I’ve been to in the Detroit area. I’m sorry but, this experience was definitely a step up from Club Pink, Half Time, Pandora’s Box, and Tangent. These events have went from monthly now to every Friday so I will definitely be back again.  It also helps that it’s like 5 minutes away from my house. So #shoutout to Ashley. We needed better venues and lesbian parties that weren’t filled with “baby dykes” . So yea, check it out: www.SixxEvents.com

And here’s some video of Natalie performing:

Update…

Wow! I haven’t posted here in a minute but, trust it’s for a good reason. Lately, I’ve been focusing on The Fembassy. I have also been thinking about totally revamping this blog. So stay tuned! I’m beyond bored with this layout and it’s about time that I take this blog to a whole new level. Please be patient with me. I promise I have new things in store.

I just did an interview with DJ House Shoes about Women in Hip Hop.  I’ve talked with women about the  issue on several occasions but, never really picked any guys brains. So in the meantime check that out. Let me know what you think too. Also, next Tuesday if you’re in Detroit come out to 5E Gallery for the “Shoes Loves The Ladies” event. I want to see you there!

sll

Thanks for also still reading and checking in during my absence. Much <3

If you’re in Detroit or the surrounding areas and you love Hip Hop then must come out to the 5 E Gallery. If you’re a female emcee then you must come out on Tuesdays for The Foundation and open mic.  The 5 E Gallery is definitely one of Detroit’s gems and I can honestly say that visiting the 5 E gallery on any night is truly an experience.

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

i-can-do-bad-all-by-myself-poster

Tonight, I finally saw Tyler Perry’s new movie, I can Do Bad All By Myself. I’d probably give the movie 3 stars out of 5. I love the issues that he tackled in this movie such as molestation, selfishness, alcohol abuse, self-love, and infidelity. The parts about molestation reminded me of T.D. Jake’s movie that starred Kimberly Elise (BTW,WHERE IS SHE? ). Although I think Tyler Perry covered it from a slightly different angle and that wasn’t the whole focus of the movie.

Taraji was great! She looked amazingly hot throughout the whole film and her acting was on point as usual. I was a little disappointed to see so little of my girl, Mary J. Blige.  I think she did well with the small part that she had though.  My only concern with MJB’s part in the movie was who was she going to be. Was she going to be “Tonya” or “Mary J. Blige”. She went from a bartender/lounge singer named Tonya to Mary J. Blige.  Although her song, “Good Woman Down” that she sang at the end of the movie was relevant to film I felt like Tyler might has well just had her do that cameo and gave the part for the character “Tonya” to someone else. I also felt like having Mary J. Blige and Gladys Knight in the movie was just too much . I assume that Tyler had both of these wonderful singers in the film to just pull in those dollars at the box office. Although, I saw nothing wrong with Gladys’ part besides her moment of spotlight (singing in the club) again I felt like someone else could have had that part. So I guess I’m kind of feeling like Nia Long in regards to singers taking actresses’ place in movies.

Besides the things that I mentioned above it was a good movie. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great. The major issue that made Tyler Perry lose me was the overboard church and singing scenes. I felt like I was watching one his plays. I probably am bias because I never liked all of the singing in his plays and I’m also not a fan of church but, 1 particular church scene was entirely too long for a movie. I felt like I had fallen asleep on a Saturday night to BET and woke up on Sunday to Joel Osteen or somebody. The fact that the preacher’s part was played by Pastor Marvin Winans made it even worse. That also brings up another point, he was barely acting. He was apparently just being himself. Anywho, Tyler Perry knows how to gain a crowd by having certain celebrities in his movies. He also knows how to make you forget about “Madea” appearing in every movie when he hits you with real life heart felt issues. There, he nails it every time. After seeing this Tyler Perry movie I still think that Why Did I Get Married and The Family that Preys were his best efforts. Oh, and by the way the little girl who played “Jennifer” was awesome. I thinks he played her part very well and I can definitely see her moving around Hollywood more.

I love this joint but, I’m afraid I love the beat more than the actual “song” . I need to find the sample and who produced this.  I’m not saying that Wayne and Drizzy suck on this track but, “I’m just saying” this beat is out cold. I love it ! It’s so cold it had me trying to freestyle lol

Anywho, Lyrically…I digs

“The things I’m willing to do to her. I wish I could have a threesome with two of her”~ Drake

“In the coupe I tint very light so them hatin b*tches can see me and you at every light. Ooo and I hope its one of them long lights. I mean I hope it’s one of them long nights. No wrong turns aint no such thang as a wrong right” ~ Wayne

Bring It On: Fight to the Finish

BIO

Last night I decided to watch the latest “Bring It On” release starring Christina Milian. I know you’re probably thinking who the hell even watches those “Bring It On” flicks but, I used to be a cheerleader so I always enjoy watching the big competitions at the end.  This release has to have been the corniest, wackest, and most stereotypical “Bring It On” movie ever made.  The movie was beyond cheesy but, what bothered me the most was the frequent stereotypes about Latinos. I’m not even Latino but, I had a huge problem with the way the movie tried to portray Latinos. The direct stereotypical jokes that were used in this movie to portray “the stuck up” cheerleader’s hatred for the “East LA/Latina” cheerleaders were just outlandish. Maybe I take things too seriously or maybe I’m too sensitive but, I hardly found this blatant mockery amusing. I’m wondering how many Latinos watched this film and took offense.

By the way I found this movie so horrible that I couldn’t even watch the whole movie. I ended up saying screw the competition at the end.

Femcees of the Week: Nola Darling

NOLA

This week over at Digiwaxx the Femcee(s) of the Week : is Nola Darling.  These girls happen to be one of my personal favorites. I found out about them a long time ago while watching an episode of Diva Speak TV.  They had performed during one of Amanda Diva’s “Spectrum Funk” shows. I remember googling them and after that I was hooked. I guess the frequency of me playing their music has gotten my little sister hooked as well because she often begs me to play their mixtape.

The most significant thing that happened during the interview was that they rambled about True Blood for about 5 minutes or so. I think because they love the show so much they had totally forgotten that I told them I hadn’t saw it.  After they realized that they had gave away a lot about the show they apologized. I found that so hilarious and even more hilarious because I finally checked out True Blood last night.  So after seeing people talk about it on Twitter all the time and then hearing them get so excited about it I had to check it out.

Anywho, you can check out the interview here.

Monkey Baby

When I ran across this photo all I could think was, ” wow.” Back in the day this probably would have had my blood boiling but, today it’s actually quite hilarious. I find it funny that people don’t have anything better to do with their time than to  try to create something to enrage a group of people.

Funny, after I uploaded my video I ran across this news clip…

The L Word Transfers to “Reality”

cast2

Just as I got content with watching my L Word DVDs over and over while patiently waiting the movie. Yes! If you missed the memo there in fact will be a L Word movie. Filming will start later on this year for it.  BUT back to the news…Showtime is now turning The L Word into a reality show. Now I never saw this coming but, I can say that I have had a few thoughts of some type of reality show about Queer folk. I must say though that I don’t think I’m too pleased with this. We all know what reality TV is about. I don’t want this to be some type of show where lesbians are made to just look like sex craved animals. Also, although I wasn’t upset about the The L Word not being diverse as many people complained about I am concerned about that for the “reality” version. As well all know some people take “reality” TV for face value.

With that being said I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out. You can read more about the Reality Series and movie here and here.
